THP STUDENTS ADDITIONAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP INSIGHTS IN THE CABRE CANNING INDUSTRY

Unila (25/4) – As many as 22 students from the Department of Agricultural Product Technology (THP) Faculty of Agriculture (FP) University of Lampung (UNILA) made an industrial visit to PT Siger Jaya Abadi (PT SJA) in Tanjung Bintang, South Lampung on April 25 2018. PT SJA is a blue swimming crab processing factory. In addition, PT SJA also exports its products to several countries in America, Europe and the Middle East.
This visit is one of the learning methods for THP students who take the elective course in Fisheries and Aquatic Product Technology in odd semesters. According to Dyah Koesoemowardhani as the Lecturer in Charge of the Course, "Apart from learning the process of canning small crabs, students can also learn about the culture of hard work from company owners in order to achieve success."
According to Pulung, Director of PT SJA, "Our products use raw materials that come from waters throughout Indonesia. Materials are taken according to the method according to the regulations of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, hygienically processed according to international and MUI halal standards, and packaged according to requests from buyer.”
THP students also received explanations about the history and management system that runs in the company from the Directors and Managers of PT SJA. After that, students saw directly the process of processing crabs at the production site until they were stored in the warehouse cold storage.
THP students are very enthusiastic about listening to every session presented by the company. "After this visit, students are increasingly motivated to do general practice internships (PU) at this company," added Novita Herdiana as one of the accompanying course lecturers.
“The key to the success of this company is to prioritize Allah SWT. Starting from the director level to the staff, everyone in this company must always maintain their worship. In line with that, everyone has to work hard and don't forget to share with others," added Pulung while motivating students to be more active in entrepreneurship. [dq/thp]
